3. Why might people build illegal settlements in cities?
Mainly the reason why many people do this is because that they can’t afford the houses or homes in the surrounding area or that they have an issue with the government or they maybe terrorists. Most migrants can’t afford proper housing in cities due to the price of houses, apartaments, etc. Due to that issue the migrants are forced to build illegal settlements without the governments approval in the city the migrants are in. Also people that can’t afford to extend their contract for living in a specific area, this will force them to do the same thign the migrants did. Another thing is people that gets kicked out of their houses or people that went bangkrupt or lose a bet will also force them to build an illegal settlement in that specific area. Also in some “rarely to happen” cases is if the people that losts their home in war or an attack will somehow lose their homes and make a new place to live in while living incognito. Also some people might have a problem with the govenrment this makes them wanting to create a settlement of their own instead of using the ones the state that they’re in offers.
4. Letter:Hong Kong
13 November, 2012
Dear “a friend”,
How are you, how have you been? I’m doing fine here, than you for asking. I am currently visiting Hong Kong, I don’t like it here. The air seems to be a problem here because it seems to make many people sick. If you come here the air wouldn’t be as clear because of the air pollution. I don’t like it here the people aren’t even nice and that’s bad enough until the factories started throwing their chemical waste in the sea. Back then throwing it into the sea didn’t affect anything that is until it spreads into the rivers. The affects were bad, overtime the air
The air smells really bad, smells like feet and gasoline. It smells really bad, I’ve been getting headaches much more frequently lately. I see green gas all over the road and the color gets more green every time I go up higher. Each day the smell gets even worse, not many people go out. Each morning I see only few people in the streets most of them are cops. Everyday I see through the window and all there is are the green gas that keeps spreading and getting more green each day. Everyday my neighbors get sick, the cops got sick and some of my cousins here has gone sick. I’m lucky I havent gotten sick though, but I’m getting there I’ve been having really hurtful stomach aches lately. My eyes can’t close because every time I blink it just hurts, so I can’t really sleep at night and it sucks. Most of the schools here are closed at the moment until science can actually figure out a solution but until then almost everyone will be staying indoors.
I don’t like it here, at all. Let me know how you’re doing there, at least there’s better than being in Hong Kong. I hate this place I thought it was gonna be sunshine and smiles but then things got worst after those factories threw out lots of chemical waste to the rivers. Say hi to your fam for me!
Sincerely, “Your Friend”
Cristiano
5. According to the graph many people decided to live in the rural area in some country, which have many poor people living, they can't afford many things such as water and something else which isn't village like stuff. In these certain country, less people live in urban places because they're rich.
6. In Surabaya, there are many poor and homeless people. In the streets of Surabaya you can see that there are homeless and poor people laying down and begging for money. Usually when there’s a red traffic light those poor people go in front of our car and begging for money. The governments haven’t done anything to the poor people because they don’t really care about the homeless and poor people. That’s why 50% of Indonesia’s population is poverty because of this problem. I think the government should do something to the poor and homeless people, or not Surabaya will be the poverty city.
